About PetInsure 911

Think of our product as a Pet Medical Aid. Its insurance against an unforeseen event, which will limit the costs associated with unpredictable medical bills. Insurance has and always will be, risk management.

There are two specific types of product on offer; accident only cover and more comprehensive policy.

Accident Cover Only

In terms of accidents only, the policy highlights exactly what is covered. By way of example, things like a motor vehicle accident, a burn, electrocution, near drowning, actions by another animal, swallowing a foreign object, allergic reactions, biliary and or accidental poising are all covered. Diagnosis must be made in 48 hours of the time of the accident to be covered by our accident policy.

The accident policy will incept on the first day of the next calendar month following the acceptance of the application. The policy terms and premiums payable will be reviewed on the 1s June each year. There is an excess fee of 15% for every claim with a minimum of R250 per claim. All claims must be submitted to Pet Underwriting Managing Agency (Pty) Ltd (PUMA) within 60 days of the date of treatment.

It is important to note a number of things, such as; sickness, disease or infection in a pets health which is not caused by accidental injury are not covered. Costs for any treatments for injuries outside of South African aren’t covered, neither are treatments by persons not registered within the South African Veterinary Council. Costs of any prosthesis, implants or transplantations are not covered or any injury by negligence.

The policy may be terminated upon giving one months’ written notice and will be effective from the first day of the calendar month following the notice.

About PetInsure 911

Comprehensive Policy

All pets from eight weeks to eight years can join the PawPaw policy. It is important to note that all vaccinations must be up to date at the time of joining and must be kept up to date. The policy has a waiting period of 30 days from the inception of the policy. Your pet will be immediately covered for accidental injuries, as long as the policy has incepted.

PawPaw covers the cost of veterinary treatments required to treat illness or injuries that the insured pet may suffer. There is an annual limit of R50 000 per pet per year. A waiting period for 6 months applies and starts from inception of the policy for all treatments, diagnostics and surgeries (this is a applied to certain situations, please see exact wording in the policy). If any symptoms manifest in, or are treated in the waiting period, a full exclusion will be placed on the policy.

All claims carry a 15% excess with a minimum of R250 per claim. Chronic treatment plans may be purchased at an additional premium as a complement to this insurance. A chronic condition is one that lasts 3 months or more.

The policy has some lifestyle benefits that are worth highlighting. The policy covers a cremation cost of up to R1000 for your pet. It will also pay up to a maximum of R600 per year towards either a health checkup or puppy socialization classes. A health checkup covers items such a consultation, faecal float testing, urine testing, ear and eye checks and blood screening, but vaccinations are excluded.

The policy will incept on the first day of the next calendar month following the acceptance of the application. All non-emergency treatments must be pre-authorized by PUMA, should pre approval not be obtained, the excess will be increased to 20% with a minimum of R500 per claim.

You need to notify PUMA of any emergency treatments within 72 hours of the event. PUMA reserves the right to contact your vet to obtain a full history of your pet. All claims must be submitted to PUMA within 60 days of the date of treatment. PUMA reserves the right to request a second opinion from a vet of their choice regarding treatment and fees.

A number of things are not covered in the policy and we suggest you read the Policy Working carefully to avoid disappointment.

The policy may be terminated upon giving one month’s written notice and the cancellation shall be effective from the first day of the calendar month following the notice.

All the legal disclosures and underwriting information can be found in the Policy Wording. Please ensure to read over the document before committing to our product. It takes less than 15 mins and is wording in such a way that ensures it is both informative and simple to understand.
